Carbon Filter Media
What is Carbon Filter
Activated carbon is usually derived from charcoal. In water purification applications used granular activated carbon (GAC). Granular activated carbon has a relatively larger particle size compared to powdered activated carbon. Activated Carbon ( Coconut charcoal Granulated ) media is an excellent filtration media, having high density with a balanced pore structure. .
Activated carbon works via a process called adsorption, whereby pollutant molecules in the fluid to be treated are trapped inside the pore structure of the carbon substrate. Typical particle sizes that can be removed by carbon filters range from 0.5 to 50 micrometres.
.
For economical option granular activated carbon (GAC) is integrated in the cartridge filter. The GAC ( granular activated carbon ) cartridge filter are easy to maintain then the activated carbon filter but the cartridge life is limited then activated carbon filter. The cartridge filter is not supported with the backwash system to flushing media inside and make particles that were being held in the bed are washed to drain as filter system own. .
A single Activated Carbon cartridge is designed for maximun flow rate of 7,58 liter perminute of water and Activated carbon filter is designed for flow rate 16.67 liter and more.
Most common application for an activated carbon is to remove unpleasant taste and odour from drinking water also removing chlorine and organic contaminants from water used in commercial and industrial applications.
.
Activated carbon media works by absorb both organic and non-organic substances like tannins, chlorine, sulfur and most chemicals and pesticides. It is most effective to remove color and odor.
